M. Alice Konecny Memorial Endowment

First Command Financial Services Advisor Anthony “Tony” Konecny and his wife Corinne established this endowment to memorialize and honor Tony’s mother, Alice Konecny. The wife of Anthony P. Konecny, Alice was born in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, to the late Daniel and Elizabeth Evans. She was a graduate of Tamaqua High School and she attended Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, as an Army Cadet Nurse. However, World War II ended before she could be commissioned.

She was committed to serving others and worked as a registered nurse at the former Coaldale State General Hospital. She later worked as a school nurse in the Tamaqua Area School District while she attended East Stroudsburg State College in pursuit of her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Alice was also committed to serving God as an active member of First United Methodist Church, Tamaqua, where she served as a member of the choir, Church Council Chairperson, and President of the Methodist Women. She retired in 1987 and frequently gave her time to the community by volunteering with the Red Cross and the Welsh Choral Group. Alice was known for her homemade chocolate candies and her love of traveling and Navy football.
